Alton E-7A is standing Southbound at the Bloomington, Illinois station in 1946. Note the closed coupler doors on the front pilot. The train is comprised entirely of heavyweight equipment and I suspect that the newer streamlined cars from ACF are yet to be delivered at the time of this photo. (Publicity Photographer unknown). |

The Midnight Special is depicted here Northbound in Bloomington, which I got up to photograph during it's last week of operation in April, 1971. The overnight Pullman, the last sleeper on the Chicago/St. Louis route, had been removed from the consist several years earlier. |

An Alton Railroad 5200 is descending off the elevated on the last leg of its journey from Chicago prior to turning into the St. Louis Union Station platform. The passenger consist includes an Alton R.P.O., a B&O combine, and one of the sets of B&O light-weight cars. This is probably the Ann Rutledge.in the 1940's. (Photographer unknown). |
